Muscat: Muscat Municipality is carrying out a major development and beautification project in the Business District in Ruwi, in the Wilayat of Muttrah, aimed at revitalising the area, improving its urban landscape and strengthening its appeal as a commercial and tourist destination.
The project, being implemented by the municipality’s Directorate General of Projects and Afforestation, covers an area of more than 290,000 square metres and is designed to improve public spaces and quality of life for residents and visitors.
Project engineer Basma bint Salim ql Yousufiya said the project has reached 40 per cent completion.
Speaking to the Oman News Agency (ONA), she said the work includes extensive landscaping and beautification, with more than 260 trees to be planted and over 290 street lighting units installed or replaced.
The project also involves upgrading pavements and laying interlocking tiles, alongside the development of a two-kilometre walkway and dedicated tracks for jogging and cycling.
A pedestrian bridge will also be built to connect the two banks of the wadi, improving accessibility while providing a safer route for pedestrians.
The development further includes seating areas, public and service facilities such as kiosks and toilets, as well as a children's play area.
